Farmers who received an electricity bill of 7.3 million TL rebelled

A monthly electricity bill of 7 million 300,000 TL benefited farmers growing beetroot in 6 villages of Elazig. Remembering President Erdogan’s words “We stand behind our peasants,” peasants protested by saying, “Who stands behind us?” Producers complained that they also reached the AKP provincial president, but nobody paid any attention to them.

The farmers growing beets in the villages of Fatmali, Muratcik, Dallica, Dambuyuk, Koruk and Pircici in the central Kozova region of Elazig received an electricity bill of 7 million 300,000 lire in a month.

The farmers, who said they could not afford to pay the high electricity bills, said they would take action to respond to the authorities.

Kürşat Aykaç, speaking on behalf of the farmers and saying that the electricity bill he will receive in just one month is 1 million 380,000 lire, said: “As Kuzova, we, the farmers, have died. They will take coercive measures on our land tomorrow,” he said.

“WE HAVE NO CHANCE TO PAY, PROMISES WERE NOT KEEPED”

Speaking on behalf of the peasants gathered in Muratcık village, farmer Kürşat Aykaç stated that 5 villages received a total of 7 million 300,000 lira in electricity bills in one month, saying, “Right now we are doing, the villagers have no chance to pay this incoming electricity bill. We can’t give that money now,” he said.

Aykaç said: “Even the sale price of the beets is not clear,” Aykaç said: “None of the promises made by the authorities regarding this electricity and irrigation problem have been kept.”

IT WILL BE INCREASED TO 22 MILLION TL BY SEPTEMBER

Explaining that there will be a bidding process for the solar power plant on July 29, Aykaç said farmers had been promised to set off, saying, “But there is no progress on this issue either. In July, 7 million 300,000 lire electricity bill came. The same number will come again in August. This figure will be a debt of approximately 22 million lire by September. We can’t afford that money, if we sell our field we can’t pay it again. If we give away all our beets, we can’t pay them again,” he said.

Aykaç said, “Our state should seize this as soon as possible,” Aykaç continued:

“We know that cities like Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır and Mardin received electricity with a 60 percent subsidy. But we, as farmers from Kuzova, cannot pay these electricity bills. Soon our farmers will get back on their tractors, remove those beets, put them on their backs and say, ‘Let’s not eat or let others eat,’ and so it goes on.”

‘THE PRESIDENT SAID ‘WE STAND BEHIND YOU’

Aykaç, who claimed that Elazığ Governor Ömer Toraman came to their village after they took measures regarding the electricity bill problems they had previously experienced and made promises to solve the problem, continued as follows :

“The governor came to our village and looked at the pump building here and promised us: ‘You will pay for the electricity, we will cover all the costs for the land’. Of course, the promise of expenses was not kept, two cars were handed in here.

We tried to use the money we raised from each other to repair any burst or cracked pipes on site. One of the governor’s promises was to do the GES and pay off the remaining debt, but the room didn’t work.

We were confused what to do, there is a bill for 7 million 300,000 lire. They will send the registered enforcement papers tomorrow and they will come and take my land, is there any point in this work then? Our President said, “We stand behind our farmers, sow the mountain, we stand behind our farmers,” who stands behind us? We were also surprised who we would tell our concerns to here.”

“WE ARE COMPLAINTS FROM OUR PARLIAMENTARY”

“We also complain about our MPs. Aykaç said that Metin Bulut (MP of Elazığ AKP) personally came here and promised 700,000 lire and he was the one who made us to plant this plant, Aykaç said:

“Ekin said: “I’m with you, if there’s a problem, I’ll go before you.” Where is it, it’s empty. We request an appointment with the Department of Agriculture to discuss this matter. Because they are unaware of what is happening here, they leave with lies. Let the real farmer come and listen and learn what the truth is. Who can pay 7 million 300,000 lire in a month?”

THE AKP PROVINCIAL PRESIDENT WAS NOT INTERESTED: WHAT DID HE CALL AND ASK?

Aykaç said that they also called AK Party Elazığ Provincial President Şerafettin Yıldırım to solve their high electricity bills, saying, “We also called AK Party Elazığ Provincial President Şerafettin Yıldırım about this issue and said: ‘We have problems because of the electricity, we want to make an appointment with the Ministry’. He said, “I have a camp in Erzurum, and after the camp is over, we have a meeting of provincial heads in Ankara,” he said.

Aykaç said, “I asked, ‘Who will take care of us?

“The head of the province didn’t come here either. To solve this problem we either go to the camps or to the streets, we have no other alternative. As Kuzova, we peasants are dead.

Tomorrow they will take over this country and take them all. From the provincial agricultural director to MPs, those who come here come to the media to say they’ve done something. Nothing else, they just advertise themselves. There is nobody here who really listens to the farmer.”

“ALL WHO COME HERE BROKE US”

Aykaç said, “I have 40 acres of land that I planted here, I get 100 lira a month because I planted corn and installed a dynamo,” Aykaç continued his speech as follows:

“However, it costs 1,100 lira per month. In Şanlıurfa it is 1,300 lire per acre, water as much as you can. In our case, it is 1,300 lira per month and 4,000 lira per acre in four months.

Our electricity here comes from the industrial electricity bill. I am an industrialist, a manufacturer, I have cultivated land of 1,150 acres and I received an electricity bill of 1 million 380,000 lire in a month.

Let all Turkey hear I pay 1 million 380 thousand lire for electricity bill I pay in a month. We are now considering taking action against this situation and we will march until the President hears our voice.

After that time, neither the governor nor the deputy will let our voices be heard only by our president. Because everyone who came here lied to us.”
