Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has been on the agenda ever since he eventfully bought Twitter. The much-discussed technology billionaire with his sensational actions had made a much-noticed entry into the Twitter headquarters. Entering the company’s San Francisco building with a sink in hand, Musk, 51, shared the pictures he took at the time on Twitter: “Let that sink in!” he wrote.
In English, this idiom means “think about it for a while and let your brain absorb this information”. Since “sink” also means “sink,” Musk made a pun on the idiom. Musk, who spent days debating what he meant in his post, fired senior executives as soon as he received the platform.
The billionaire, who said he wanted to make Twitter “the most trusted source of information in the world,” not only fired the Twitter CEO, chief financial officer and senior legal and policy executive, but half the company with them.
“BACK TO WORK”
After Twitter laid off about 50 percent of its workforce following Friday’s $44 billion purchase of Elon Musk, it has now emerged that dozens of employees have managed to get back to work.
Some of those asked to return were “accidentally” fired, according to a Bloomberg report. A few Twitter employees were shown the door before realizing their work may be required to build the new features for the platform Musk wants.
YOU CANNOT ACCESS COMPANY SYSTEMS
As expected for weeks, Twitter fired nearly 3,700 employees via email on Friday. Many employees have learned they have been fired after their access to company systems like Slack and email was suddenly suspended.
On Friday evening, the new company owner Musk specified the terminations with the following statements in his tweet:
Unfortunately, there was no other option as the company was losing more than $4 million a day. Anyone who came out was offered 3 months’ severance pay, 50 percent more than the law requires.
REMAINING STAFF CANNOT HOLD UPON REQUEST
Musk previously referenced the company’s determination to restore its financial health, and that would involve massive layoffs. The company still has around 3,700 employees. Those who stay will be forced by Musk to work quickly to develop and implement new features.
News of employees sleeping in the office to meet newly imposed deadlines also made headlines after recently circulating on social media. Additionally, this is something Musk himself is known for.
Musk’s acquisition of Twitter has led some users to alternative platforms. One of the most lucrative ventures in this direction was Mastodon. According to M?astodon, the platform currently has 655,000 users and 230,000 of them have joined the platform in the last week.
It is reported that the servers of the social network, which has been active for six years, are experiencing difficulties due to this sudden interest. In Mastodon, which is similar to Twitter, the accounts start interacting by following each other, just like Twitter. There are options to reply, like and re-share these posts.
An in-app change announced yesterday by Musk with back-to-back posts turned into an online discussion with some famous users. An American comedian’s Twitter account with 2 million followers was blocked in the discussion, which also spread to various social media outlets.
The comedian, named Kathy Griffin, fought with Musk from the social media application Mastodon, which is very similar to Twitter. The discussion started with the billionaire businessman announcing the change regarding accounts impersonating real people.
Musk said fake accounts will be permanently banned if the phrase “spoof account” is not used. Additionally, some users, including comedian Griffin, began changing their names to Elon Musk.
Griffin, whose account was suspended, targeted Musk with the application called Mastodon, saying, “Elon suspended my account. I guess not all content moderators got fired,” he wrote wryly. On top of that, Elon Musk announced that he could return the account to Griffin for his $8 Blue Tick fee.
It is reported on Twitter that there may be delays with the blue tick.
