We have six rules

Guest of the Investor’s Guide this week was Müge Peker, General Manager of Yapı Kredi Portfolio, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. Recalling that portfolio management companies manage assets of 1 trillion TL and manage private pension and mutual funds, Peker explained that the main advantage of portfolio management for investors is that the selection of the asset to invest is made by an expert, who said: “With our dedicated portfolio management staff, our risk management department immediately monitors the risks of the managed portfolios. With the TEFAS system introduced in recent years, mutual funds have become widely known. On the other hand, operational costs and accessibility have become easier portfolio management. The investment costs are also cheaper. On the other hand, instead of picking and following a single stock, fund manager research units are in place here. You choose both the sectors and the returns by following the sectors afterwards,” he said.

‘RETURNS WILL BE REALIZED IN THE MEDIUM AND LONG TERM’

Peker noted that funds, particularly equity funds, have been performing very well recently: “We have a research department. Here all macro and micro developments are followed and company analyzes are prepared, balance sheets are monitored, future fundamental and technical analyzes are prepared together with our assumptions. We make weekly decisions with our fund managers. If there are different developments, weekly decisions are implemented immediately. Of course, our goal is to take medium and long-term positions. So let’s go see the return.”

WEALTH DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

Referring to inflation and interest rate hikes not seen worldwide since the 1980s, Peker recalled that after the central banks’ quick response to this situation, discussions started on whether there would be a recession in 2023, saying: ” We invest with the asset allocation system in this environment. We have baskets of funds that we manage with this system.” We carry out our management with 6 different strategies. In this system there are currently stocks, gold, foreign stocks and debt, private sector bonds, money market and Eurobonds. We also have funds in 6 instruments,” he said. On the other hand, Peker recalled that they manage 6 different instruments and their timing is made by the fund managers, saying: “The total size of the funds we manage has exceeded 10 billion lire. The Returns over the past 5 years have been very highly satisfactory for clients.”

KEY UNITS RESEARCH AND RISK MANAGEMENT

Explaining that Yapı Kredi Portfolio was established on January 30, 2002 and started working with traditional funds, Peker said: “The acceleration of the system was done with Private Pension Scheme (BES) funds. Our main philosophy is customer satisfaction and building sustainable long-term relationships with investors. Our investment power is very high, our product range is very wide, and we have powerful technology.

Noting that research and risk departments are essential in portfolio management, Peker pointed out that immediate risk monitoring of managed portfolios with an impartial eye is very important.

HUMAN BRAIN AND TECHNOLOGY MUST COMBINE

Explaining that they have doubled their technology departments in the last two years, Peker said: “Of course we maintain our leadership position in the field of digitization. However, we are developing other models with more algorithms. My 20 years of experience shows that it is more correct to combine human and robot here. There are some balances that robots cannot see. O “That’s why our main philosophy is to combine the human brain with technology. The algorithms we set up give a signal, but before the end the portfolio manager looks at the research and the last eye before applying it. If When both sides come together, the negative effects of human emotion are eliminated,” he said. Peker noted that Koç Participation, managed according to this logic, has had great success in equity, gold and global technology funds.

He explained that as Yapı Kredi Portfolio, they want more young people to be active and invest in this field, and they want to benefit from the diverse perspectives of young people. Peker said that during this period they proposed investing in domestic stocks, Eurobond funds investing in foreign debt and gold funds.
